The Cronut

As you may recall in one of my previous posts, I recently took a trip to New York. There I explored tons, and even met up with a friend from Instagram, named Jared. He and I decided that it would only be fitting if we cafe hopped throughout the day. What else do Instagrammers do? After several idea as to where we would actually go, we came up with a brilliant one. Waking up at 7am, we would go to Dominique Ansel Bakery and stand in line for the infamous, cronut. And so we did just that.

If you aren't familiar with this pastry (shame on you!) let me tell you a little about it. It is a hybrid of a croissant and a donut. Americans and French unite! It was actually thought up by Chef Dominique Ansel, right in New York. It's even trademarked! Each month, there is a different flavor of this cronut. Every day, only about 350 cronuts are actually made, hence having to line up an hour prior to the bakery opening. However, if you're not into all that standing, you have the option to order online.

DA Bakery is also known for pastries aside from the cronut. The second best known treat to purchase is definitely their Frozen S'more. I know, sounds crazy, but I totally recommend looking up a picture of it. Your mouth will surely water. Another popular thing is the Cookie Shot. The name says it all. A cookie shaped into the form of a shot glass and filled with milk. I personally don't see all the craze, maybe it's because it looks so cool, but I would totally much rather get the Frozen S'more.

Arriving at around 7:30 am, we took our spots in line. There were already about 100 people in front of us! As we waited, we were kindly given cups of lemonade and a madeleine. At 8am the doors to the bakery finally opened, and at about 8:15, we were inside. We both ordered 2 cronuts (which is the limit per person) and headed on back for a photo session for the gorgeous cronuts. Since it was August, the flavor was Peach Bourbon. I can't even begin to describe how delicious (and sweet) they were. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed eating the pastry. I also kind of hope to make you jealous. Just thought I'd tell you that.

  1. Yes! A hundred times yes! I used to work a block from Dominique Ansel. And every morning I would have to put my head down and run past really quickly so as to not eat their goodies every single day!
